How to Properly Refuse Risk
Intent
Demonstrate How to Properly Refuse Risk, incorporating the Risk Management Process, 10 Standard Firefighting Orders, and 18 Watch Out Situations, as referenced in the Incident Response Pocket Guide (IRPG), PMS 461.

- Show the video.
- Facilitate a small or large group discussion using the activity and discussion questions.
- Navigate and pause video when necessary to allow for engagement with class.
Conduct Activity
- Divide the class.
- Give each group the Discussion Questions, below.
- Discuss group responses.
Discussion Questions
- You should never fight wildfire with any of the 10 Standard Firefighting Orders broken. How many of the 18 Watch Out Situations would you feel comfortable working with?
- List factors that would change your comfortability with Watch Outs being present.
- Have you ever felt unsafe with an assignment? Why, and what actions were taken?
- Identify other resources you could use to help manage risk.
